Layoffs by Swedish Dev Toca Boca

Gamigion

Swedish kids’ game maker Toca Boca just went through some layoffs, and staff aren’t shy about sharing the news on social media. The cuts hit a mix of roles: QA, art, design, devs, you name it.

No official word yet on how many jobs were lost or what this means for Toca Boca’s lineup.

Data?

Toca Boca’s biggest hit is Toca Boca World, a 2018 launch that’s raked in close to $800M across the App Store and Google Play. The studio also recently soft-launched Toca Boca Days, an online multiplayer game rolling out since April 2024.

But it’s not just Toca Boca feeling the squeeze. Parent company Spin Master shut down Swedish studio Nørdlight last month, blaming high user acquisition costs and underperforming games. Despite some Q4 improvements for Toca Boca World, Spin Master’s digital media division still posted a $9M revenue dip for 2024.
