Today Turborilla AB, an Umeå-based independent gaming studio, is gearing up for a game-changing chapter with the announcement of London native John Wright as Chief Executive Officer. This move by the Board of Directors proves Turborilla’s commitment to push the boundaries and thrive in the competitive gaming landscape.
Wright brings to Turborilla nearly 15 years of industry knowledge. Most recently as the Vice President of Mobile Games at Kwalee, he was instrumental in scaling the company past one billion lifetime downloads while leading a 180-person global team. Prior to Kwalee, Wright held a founding leadership role at Luna Labs as Vice President of Operations. He played an active role in driving Luna Lab’s acquisition by Unity and led the post-merger integration to align teams and technology.
“I’m honored to lead Turborilla into its next chapter,” said Wright. “Thank you to Tobias and the board for their trust. With our talented team, we’ll continue to grow the Mad Skills brand, strengthen our publishing partnerships, and create new experiences that engage players around the world, doubling down on what fans love.”
In 2024, Wright was recognized with a TIGA Award nomination for Outstanding Leadership. He also serves as a strategic advisor to several successful gaming companies, helping them navigate growth and product strategy.
“We’re thrilled to welcome John Wright as our new CEO,” said Turborilla founder and former CEO Tobias Andersson. “John brings a wealth of leadership experience and a bold vision for the future, championing our guiding principles: ‘Come As You Are’, ‘We Have Your Back’, and ‘Ship It’. I am confident in stepping back into a board member position and handing over the reins, knowing he’ll lead Turborilla to new heights.”
Wright begins his appointment effectively immediately.
