I’ve been following the hyper casual market closely for over five years.
One of my first editorial lines on LinkedIn was the list of the top 10 hyper casual games by downloads. 🔝🔟
However, the industry has changed a lot since then. 🤯
Today, we live in the Age of the Hybrid Casual.
The ecosystem of big publishers and hundreds of small and medium-sized developers has changed.
The new titles have more depth, pursuing IAP revenue. 💰
This was unthinkable in the Golden Age of Hyper Casual.
For comparison, one of the biggest hyper casual hits, Voodoo’s “Helix Jump”, made just $2.8MM in IAP revenue from over 520MM cumulative downloads.
That’s why I’m returning to my top 10 list, but with hybrid casual titles and organized by revenue.
I believe the hybrid casual industry is mature and with very dynamic competition. 🤼♂️
It’s a good time to come back with my top 10 list. 😉

A few methodological notes. 📝
The hyper casual market has been misunderstood over the years.
On many occasions, experts have declared it dead.⚰️😵
In my opinion, some of these misunderstandings stemmed from misinterpretations of hyper casual.
⚠️ Hyper casual is a business model. It’s not a game genre. ⚠️
Its main innovation lies in its agile and assertive development process.
When hyper casual is understood as a genre, the analysis focuses on the games separately.
However, the best way to understand the hyper casual ecosystem is by analyzing the development roadmaps.
1 or 2 games aren’t enough.
A hyper casual market researcher analyzes dozens of games a week. 😅
Some questions guide us.
Which genres and sub-genres are standing out? Who are the publishers and developers of the big hits? What are the latest innovations in mechanics and monetization strategies?
👉 It’s this whole thing that makes up hyper casual.
And the hybrid casual is an evolution of the hyper casual.
For this reason, I haven’t included games from publishers with typical casual/core development, such as Habby’s titles.
Or developers who are dedicated to just 1 flagship.
This is not an opinion on the success of the business.
This is just an attempt at classification.
