EU’s DMA definitely opened the door for third-party app stores on iOS

The EU’s DMA definitely opened the door for third-party app stores on iOS, and Skich walked through it in a way I didn’t expect.

They’ve launched a third-party iOS app store, “built specifically for mobile gamers”… but with zero games available at launch (for now).

A game marketplace with no games? 🤨
Imagine all the headlines you create to attract users at launch, and then they arrive to find no games. That’s a fast way to lose trust and waste the attention (and investment) you worked hard to earn.

That said, I really like their concept.
A swipe-based recommendation engine, 240 genres, and a 15% dev fee (vs. Apple’s 20%), there’s serious potential here if they can deliver.

Tbh I’d love to see more visibility into what’s coming, especially how the swipe-based discovery works, which could be a real differentiator.

I’ve been following my friends at Aptoide as they build in this space: they launched with a handful of games and have been growing steadily.

It’s exciting to see more teams bringing different approaches. At the end of the day, we’re finally seeing real alternatives in game distribution, and that’s good news for developers, publishers, and players alike.
