The Future of Gaming: Doom or Destiny?

There is a real degree of existential uncertainty currently gripped the gaming industry. For all the growth, global visibility, and sheer volume of content being produced, one uncomfortable question is keeping many awake at night: Is the industry running out of road? Over the past decade, the industry has been defined by performance metrics, monetisation models, and subscription platforms. But the very mechanisms that once propelled it forward now seem to be holding it back. From the mass layoffs, conservative greenlighting, and bloated “just ship more” pipelines driven by Game Pass-like services, the industry is chasing scale, often at the expense of creativity. Looking East, looking small, but still looking back It is natural to search for momentum elsewhere. In China, gaming still works. Economically, creatively, and culturally. There, a younger, more risk-tolerant audience engages deeply with experimental formats and […]

Wonderful World of Gaming #6

What I found interesting in the wonderful world of Gaming #006 🎮 Has Apple Arcade finally found its niche?I recently took a dive into Apple Arcade after not touching it for quite some time and to my delight I found a few absolute corkers I’d previously played on Steam such as Slay the Spire, Vampire Survivors, Dead Cells, and with Monster Train coming soon it got me thinking… what if Apple Arcade could work with Steam developers to bring their games to the platform, I’m sure the extra revenue stream wouldn’t hurt. Then I stumbled on the amazing FANTASIAN effectively a PC&C title (think Octopath Traveler It was produced and written by Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame). Perhaps this is how Apple Arcade will become dominant on IOS by capturing the hearts of Steam players.https://lnkd.in/ey74ryBNhttps://lnkd.in/eEEB4UCW🕹 That WB announcement...I’ve been saying for a […]

Have you ever considered how to improve D60 retention?

💡 Have you ever considered how to improve D60 retention? Here's a great example from a game called Dislyte by Lilith Games. It's a gacha game, and the 'Shimmer' characters are very difficult or expensive to collect. The Reverbertron mini-game allows players to collect characters by completing daily tasks. Once you've completed 60 spins, you can choose one of the characters to keep. It's crucial to establish the value of the reward early in the game. Players should understand that it would cost a significant amount of money or take a year of playing to achieve this outside of the event, making the 60 days of tasks a necessity. This also creates a great synergy between product and user acquisition. It's easier to attract players to the game during a special event, and with stronger retention, there should generally be more engagement and […]
